Does size really matter?

Apparently it does matter when it comes to Subway's "Footlong"  subs (also known as hoagies, heros, grinders, submarine sandwiches).  Two men in New Jersey are among those who have recently filed suit with Subway because reportedly the "Footlong" subs they purchased are not 12 inches or 1 foot as they are marketed. Rather they are supposedly only 11 inches long!!!!!
Obviously to these gentleman size really does matter!!!

But why am I telling you about this?

Well, the 9 quilties that I made for round one...

My creations from the first round of Tangled Textiles challenges

are all the agreed upon 16 inches x 16 inches.

Even my first quilt for our second round measures approximately :-)

Tangled Textiles, Challenge #9: blue

16 inches x 16 inches

However,
as I begin to play with some ideas
for our next challenge, REMNANTS,
the first idea that came to mind may not work
in the 16"x16" format.

So I am wondering....
did we agree to maintain the same dimensional requirements
for our second round????

Or does size really matter???????

  2. That’s an interesting question! I personally love the square size, especially for my Remnants idea (when it’s going to work like I hope it will). I wonder if it is a problem if some of would use a different size for their quilts? I don’t think so!
    Curious to see the replies!

  3. I'm all for going with the size that works for the piece. If any size works then use the suggested 16" square.

  4. Hmm good question. I can see where some quilts are better in a rectangular setting while others in a square, and still others in a polygon. I'm wondering how you would show different sized quilts in a mosaic. Would that work?

  5. so far the square shape has worked for me, but I too can appreciate that sometimes it may not be the best shape for a design. I'm happy to go with whatever is decided!

  6. I think that if we limit the size and shape based on how the mosaic works, then we re limiting our creativity. Let us rule the mosaic, don't let it rule us! However, that's just my opinion. I would love to do other sizes and shspes

  7. I'm with Vicki and the rest who are open to using other sizes. Can we come up with a rectangular dimension, and be free to use whichever size works for our piece? I for one would like to have that option--

  8. I think having the flexibility to choose the format which best suits the work is a good idea. What if the standard size for a rectangular piece was either 12 x 16 or 16 x 20. Which would work best?
