Getting Close

I have finished the quilting and now have the edge treatment to consider. Yes there were lots of starts and stops and I have many threads to tie.

The quilting is not traditional and I am not using a traditional binding this time so this will be an experiment for me. Of course, the entire project has been an experiment, so the fact that I am not doing a traditional binding should not surprise anyone. With luck, I will be done tomorrow night, but I am keeping my fingers crossed, just in case.

  1. That's two nearly finished, you and lisa and I am just stitching, stitching, stitching. I am very jealous, but I'll be finished, by hook or by crook. Is the quilting thread variegated, or did you stop and rethread a million times? If it looks this good on the batting, then I know it will look spectacular on the front.

  2. Yeah Judy, looking good! I am still stitching, unpicking, stitching, unpicking, stitching, tieing threads. My quilt ended up a bit too small so I need to go for a binding that will add a few milimeters!

I already asked on your private blog, but Im so curious why you quilted without the backing attached to the quilt.

  3. That's what makes this so much fun, it's all about experimenting and trying something you might not have otherwise. Can't wait to see it!

  5. I am contemplating a pillow case finish and since I have not used this technique before I knew I could not quilt through to the backing and then turn the backing for a finished edge. However I could have done a facing, but that thought didn't occur to me before I started quilting. So we will see what happens.

A pillow case finish for a little quilt is something new and to explore for me!

  10. I am posting this comment for Janet. She can post but not comment, at present.

This is looking so very good Judy! I can’t wait to see it all finished and revealed later this week.
I’ve recently fallen in love with the clean finish look on mini quilts and while I haven’t tried the pillowcase method, I have been using the facing method and I love it! Speaking of which, I hope to be handsewing my facing down by tonight. Fingers crossed XXXX
